"Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west." - Isaiah 43:5

“When your life is happy and your heart is happy, it means you’re here at home.”

These are the words Dayna “read” to Alaina on Mother’s Day (click to see the video) last week. Where these words came from is beyond us, but they reveal a very tender heart in our now three-year-old.

Today we celebrate 2 years since we first laid our eyes and hands on sweet little Dayna. My, how the time has flown! This year has been such a whirlwind, and filled with so many memories.

Since our Christmas update, Dayna has kept us hopping (and laughing). Christmas was so much fun with a two-year-old this year. Papa and Nana Wood surprised all of us by showing up unannounced from Oregon. We got to spend two wonderful weeks together as we celebrated Christmas. Grandma and YeYe Wilson joined us on Christmas Day. Needless to say, Dayna was a bit spoiled this year!

In January, we traveled to Kentucky for the funeral of Dayna’s Great-Grandma Wilson. We’re so glad Dayna and her Great Grandma were able to spend a year and a half together. While the circumstances of our trip were sad, Dayna was a trooper and traveled well. We were able to enjoy the Louisville Science Center, the Riverwalk, and of course, visit with family.

February was a busy month, celebrating Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day. Dayna got her first haircut for Chinese New Year. She’s very proud of her bangs. We enjoyed making mouse cupcakes for the Year of the Rat and taking them to daycare to share with her friends. She did a little better with the Lion Dancers this year, but still tells us several times a day “the lion dancers are SCARY!”

Our little leprechaun sailed right into March, and was a wonderful “helper” when it came to shoveling all of our snow. March was a blur for her parents, as we were both sick for several weeks. She rose to the occasion and never got sick! What a helper she is! Easter was a blessed event; she loved to hear the story of the Resurrection. Coloring Easter eggs and hiding them inside and outside was about as much fun as a two-year-old could have. While preparing for Easter, we started working on memorizing portions of Scripture together. If you ever have a chance, you should ask Dayna to tell you Psalm 23. (She usually says it in about 8 seconds, so you might not understand every word!) We also were able to take a road trip to Denver so Alaina could attend a professional conference. Dayna and her Daddy enjoyed the Denver Zoo, as well as a side trip to Colorado Springs. In Denver, we were also able to meet Samantha Wilson and her family. Samantha also hails from Gutian, and it was so much fun to watch these Gutian girls playing together.

In April, Dayna and her mom went to Marion, Iowa for Spring Break to visit some friends. Dayna now asks weekly to go to the Amana Colonies for breakfast. She can still pack away the food!

Cute as a ladybug

May 1st marked Dayna’s third birthday. We now have a zoo membership, and Dayna loves seeing the animals. We have planted our garden, and Dayna is excitedly watching the progress of her marigold and green beans.

Dayna continues to love music, food, talking, and playing pretend. More often than not, we hear, “no…I’m not Dayna. I’m a baby” or “you be the baby and I’ll be the Mommy.” She has a wild imagination, and there is never a dull moment around our house. Thanks for indulging us with another update. Have a safe and blessed summer!
