How Annie

Became a Wilson

Travel Journal

April 2, 2013

It was a quiet last day in Guangzhou. Once again, it rained pretty steadily. On two occasions, we tried to check out the local park, but were rained out. This was particularly disappointing to Dan who REALLY wanted to be able to find a geocache in China.

Otherwise, the day was spent with sorting, packing, tossing, and planning for our journey home tomorrow. We received Annie's Immigrant Visa this afternoon. This is the official end of our trip.

We said our farewells to our travel group. The Stokes family left this evening, and we're leaving so early in the morning that no one else will be awake. The hotel is sending us off with boxed breakfasts, so we won't be able to enjoy the grand buffet one last time. We also discovered this afternoon that a child's meal had been ordered for Annie. She is unable to eat much table food at this time, so we went in search of some baby food to take with us. Unfortunately, while the hotel has horribly overpriced diapers (the equivalent of $6 USD for 12 diapers), they have no baby food. Dan & Dayna had to take a cab to WalMart to pick up something for Annie to eat on the plane. Meanwhile, Alaina and Annie experienced their first (and last) Chinese McDonalds for this trip. Nothing spectacularly odd: chicken nuggets, fries and a Coke.

Grace has been a wonderful guide for us, and we will sadly have to tell her goodbye in the morning when she puts us on a van headed to Hong Kong. From Hong Kong, we'll fly to San Francisco where we'll sit for five hours. Then on to Denver for another few hours before finally landing in Omaha around 10:00 at night. Again, we will be tired and travel weary (and be warned...Alaina's not planning on wearing any makeup!), but we'd love to see you if you want to come to the airport.

The last bit of excitement we've had today involves the loss of another one of Dayna's top teeth. It started wiggling on the airplane here, and just fell out. We hear that that Easter Bunny visited our house while we were gone. Now we need to find out if the Tooth Fairy will come to China, or if we'll have to wait for her to visit when we come home.

So, as we told many of our friends a few weeks ago, we'll see you on the other side!

Prayer Requests:

• Safe, uneventful travel

• Rest on the airplane for ALL of us

• A good night's sleep tonight

• No lost luggage

• Calm tummies

• Patience with each other and those around us

Praises:

• It's been a really good trip this far

• Our travel expenses have come in under budget

• No one has been sick on this trip

• We're almost HOME!
